2020 Election

The City of Valley City regular election will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Barnes County Courthouse, 230 4th Street NW, Valley City, ND.

Voting

Barnes County is administering the election. There will be one polling place on the day of the election at the Barnes County Courthouse, 230 4th Street NW.

Absentee Voting

Beginning, Thursday, April 30, ballots will also be available to residents to vote by mail. All absentee ballots will be available at the Barnes County Auditor’s Office in the Barnes County Courthouse, 230 4th Street NW.

When returning your absentee ballot, please send to the Barnes County Auditor’s Office, 230 4th Street NW, Valley City, ND 58072.

  • Park Board – 4 year term (2 positions)

Measure No. 1 – Advisory Vote on Proposal to Extend City Sales, Use & Gross Receipts Tax dedicated to Fund Permanent Flood Protection

The City Commission through Resolution No. 2223, voted to place the following advisory vote on the June 9, 2020 regular election:

The Board of Commissioners of the City of Valley City submits the following question for an advisory vote pursuant to its Home Rule Charter, to adopt a new section of Title 20 of the Valley City Municipal Code, extending an existing one-half (1/2) percent city sales, use and gross receipts tax for a period of no more than 15 years.

The extension of the sales, use and gross receipts tax would be approved by the Board of City Commissioners based on the advisory vote by and through an ordinance as published in the Valley City Times Record on [DATE].

Said ordinance provides that the tax proceeds shall be dedicated to payment of debt for construction, operation, and maintenance of the city’s permanent flood protection project.

Said ordinance will take effect on December 1, 2047, and will terminate 15 years thereafter, unless rescinded earlier after the financial obligations of the project have been paid as determined by the Board of Commissioners.

Shall the Board of Commissioners of the City of Valley City adopt the ordinance described above extending a one-half (1/2) percent city sales, use and gross receipts tax dedicated to permanent flood protection project indebtedness.
