Phase II of the 5th Ave NW reconstruction has been suspended for winter. The roadway opened to residents October 21st so they could all get in their garages prior to the weather. Permanent signage will be placed the week of Oct. 26 and the roadway will open to the public at that time. A temporary material consisting of a blend of aggregate and crushed asphalt has been placed and compacted on sidewalks that have not yet been completed so once things freeze solid homeowners will be able to maintain and clear snow. With 5th Ave NW not being a designated truck route, per Section 14-12-29 of the VCMC, the maximum axle load would should be 12,000 lbs. As long as we abide by that we should not have any other concerns of any travel restrictions on that road. The final construction work will be completed late spring/early summer in 2021. Construction Notice – 5th Avenue NW
Starting August 18th, 2020, the intersections of 2nd and 6th Street NW along the 5th Ave NW corridor will be closed for paving operations. The intersections will remain closed until paving operations are completed later this week.
The current detour route will remain in effect. The detour runs from Main Street to 9th Avenue NW and then back to 5th Avenue NW via 12th Street NW.

Starting August 14th, 2020, the intersection of 5th Avenue NW and 2nd Street NW will be closed. The intersection will remain closed into next week until paving operations are completed. 6th Street NW will open on August 14th and then also close for paving operations August 17th. Scheduled dates may fluctuate due to weather.
The current detour route will remain in effect. The detour runs from Main Street to 9th Avenue NW and then back to 5th Avenue NW via 12th Street NW.

Construction Notice: Paving 121 Seal Coat Starts 06/10/2020
Paving Improvement Districts 121: 12th ST NW, 3rd AVE NE, 7th ST SE, Riverview Drive, and 15th AVE SW District
Seal coat work on Paving Improvement District 121 will begin on Thursday, June 11, 2020 and finish on Friday, June 12, 2020, weather pending. No parking signs will be installed 48 hours prior to the start of work have been installed to accommodate this work. The parking restriction only applies to daylight hours on the days the seal coat work is scheduled. Residents will have access to their homes and driveways. Intermittent interruptions are to be expected while driving on these streets but should be short.

3rd Avenue SE Reconstruction – Construction Update
Beginning July 30: 3rd Avenue SE Reconstruction
The 3rd Avenue SE Reconstruction Project is starting on Monday, July 30th, 2018. 3rd Avenue SE will be closed from Main St to 4th St SE. Traffic control signs will be installed on Friday, July 27th. The road and sidewalks will remain closed for the remainder of the project. A signed detour will be provided along 2nd Ave SE. The adjacent blocks of 2nd St SE and 3rd St SE will be closed to thru traffic, allowing only local traffic. 4th St SE and the 3rd Ave SE bridge will remain open with intermittent disruptions. Main Street Closure Beginning 03/12/2018
VALLEY CITY, ND –
Permanent Flood Protection Phase 2 work will continue in Valley City. Beginning Monday, March 12, 2018, Main Street will be closed between Central Ave and 5th Ave NW. Local traffic will be permitted to businesses inside of the road closures. Business signing will be provided. For the safety of the traveling public, traffic will be detoured onto 2nd Street NW during this shut down. A new truck route detour will be added utilizing 9th AVE NW, 12 Street North, and 5th AVE NE. The contractor will begin removing Main Street at this time and construction of the floodwalls will continue. Main Street will be closed for the 2018 construction season. Additional updates will be provided as needed.
