Disposal Fees at Transfer Station
These listed below are for disposal at the Transfer Station. Other rates apply for your residential or commercial account. Please see the appropriate residential or commercial rate pages.

Valley City Public Works staff will review the load and determine the appropriate disposal method.
- Garbage fee applies to items that must be sent to the Fargo landfill. Generally speaking, this includes household garbage, furniture and small appliances. Final determination will be made by VCPW staff. If you have questions about specific materials, please call (701) 845-0314.
- Inert fee applies to items that Valley City Public Works is permitted to dispose of on site. The inert site can accept construction material such as wood and drywall. Shingles will be accepted without tar paper, and a certificate from an asbestos test. Final determination will be made by VCPW staff. Animal waste: Animal waste must be placed in sealed bags before placing in cans.
Asbestos: Contact Public Works at 701-845-0380.
Ashes: Ashes must be placed in a closed plastic bag. Do not mix ashes with garbage. Only cold ashes will be picked up.
Car batteries: Car batteries can be recycled at Valley Recycling, 115 12th Avenue SE.
Christmas trees: City crews will pickup Christmas trees from your normal garbage pickup area. All trees must have bags and stands removed. Look for information on social media, radio, and the newspaper on a date for tree pickups.
Commercial Hazardous Waste: Commercial accounts should contact the Transfer Station or Safety Kleen in Fargo for information on how to dispose of hazardous waste.
Construction debris: City crews will not pickup debris from home construction or remodeling. All waste generated by a contractor will be the responsibility of the contractor or occupant.
Furniture pickup: Furniture can be disposed of at the Transfer Station, 11490 35th St. SE . If left at the curb you will be charged an extra fee which will be determined by Pubic Works Staff. One person furniture lift is $25.00 per furniture item. Two person furniture lift is $35.00 per furniture item.
Fluorescent light bulbs: The transfer station does accept fluorescent light bulbs but can only be accepted in small household quantities of 3-4 light bulbs. This is for Residents ONLY.
Paint/paint cans: Paint/paint cans will be picked up if empty or mixed with kitty litter, floor dry or saw dust to form a solid mass.
Pesticides: the ND Dept of Ag has a program called Project Safe Send that will collect and properly dispose of pesticides at different collection sites across the state in July. Sharp objects: Place broken glass, sharp metal pieces, etc. into a puncture resistant container.
Shingles: All shingles must be presented with document stating they are asbestos free.
How do I obtain “asbestos free” documentation?
- contact an asbestos inspector and they will be able to correctly identify whether or not your possible ACM is asbestos free. Prices for each inspector may vary.

Syringes/lancets: Place syringes and/or lancets in a sharps container.
Televisions: Disposing of TV’s will no longer be possible in Valley City. As part of our contract with the Fargo landfill, any Valley City resident may bring their TV’s to the Household Hazardous Waste site in Fargo located at 606 43 1/2 St N Fargo, ND 58102. The HHW site in Fargo is for residents of Valley City, NOT for commercial use. Proof of residency (drivers license or Public Works utility bill) will be required. Each household is allowed to dispose of one (1) tv per month and one (1) computer set per month. Residents are allowed up to 220#’s per month at the hazardous waste site. Metal and used oil: Residents can dispose of these items free of charge at the Transfer Station, located at 11490 35th Street SE. or Valley Recycling
Additional garbage and inert material can be disposed of at the transfer station at an established fee.
Recycling: These items can be disposed of free of charge at Valley Recycling, located at 115 12th Avenue SE:
- Aluminum cans
- Tin cans
- Plastic Numbers 1 & 2 only
- Magazines
- Paper
- Cardboard
- Glass (NO Flat glass)
- Metal Can be dropped off free of charge at the Valley Recycling Center South Location ONLY 11481 35th St SE
